Bad Teacher: Pretty Good Film

Can I start this review by saying that Cameron Diaz is a damn fine actress. It's just that most people only relate to her as the cute girl with jizz in her hair from There's Something about Mary or the impossibly kick ass Alex in Charlie's Angels. Most people forget her incredible dramatic turn in Being John Malkovich, for instance.

In Bad Teacher, she plays the foul-mouthed, drug-taking, couldn't-care-less Elizabeth Halsey. After being dumped by her rich fiance, Elizabeth is forced to return to teaching and plots a boob job to increase her chances of finding another rich boyfriend.

While Bad Teacher obviously is not some groundbreaking, genre-defining movie, it's fairly funny and entertaining. Cameron is a proven comedic talent and she is great in this. I found Eric Stonestreet more funny in his small role here than any episode I've seen him in Modern Family. His reaction to finding out that Elizabeth is not a nurse is HILARIOUS.

There were two weaknesses in the film for me. One was Justin Timberlake, who I believe should stop acting at this second. In any role I've seen him in (including The Social Network) it's like he plays the same fucking guy! The same smarmy guy with that weird voice of his. It's annoying!

The other low light of this movie was Cameron Diaz's face:

Good lord, what is she doing to herself? Her face looks permanently swollen and botoxed throughout the film, it severely detracted from the plot point that Elizabeth is broke as a lowly paid teacher. It's like Elizabeth Hurley did Cameron's make up on the film, making her look like Shane Warne's long lost sister:
Shane Warne and The Liz Hurley Effect
All jokes aside, it's bizarre to see Cameron like this. She was so stunning when she made her film debut in The Mask. Cameron, please stop with the surgery!
