Hart of Dixie: Pilot Review

So I've continued my viewing of the latest American TV shows to debut this season with Hart of Dixie. Starring Rachel Bilson (The OC), Hart of Dixie is pretty much a rehashed mashup of Gilmore Girls and Everwood with some elements of Felicity and Joan of Arcadia added in for good measure.

Rachel has never been a good actress. She single-handedly ruined The Last Kiss with her limited dramatic range and lack of screen presence. And no one flocked to watch Jumper for her.

She's equally as dry and one-note in Hart of Dixie. She is not a convincing bright young doctor. She isn't even a convincing driven New Yorker. She just coasts by scene by scene, and gets upstaged by even the minor guest actors. Rachel isn't annoying; she's just bland. Also, a note to the producers: please stop playing country music every 5 seconds each scene. We get it, it's set in Alabama.

Having said that though, Hart of Dixie is what it's supposed to be: mindless, banal light entertainment. It's been renewed for a full season in the USA, so hopefully it will get better. Who knows, Bilson's character might end up becoming a cute heroine like Summer Roberts in The OC.

But still, if The CW wanted to re-tread their past TV hits why not revamp a show like Summerland? Now there is a show I'd love to see again! It brought us gold moments like this lol-worthy clip:
