One Day: A Brief Movie Review

Saw One Day last night, finally! I loved the book so much I wrote to the author. It was very emotional for me.

So the verdict on the film adaptation?

...It was okay, I guess. The book is infinitely better, The film just sped through the whole story and for me because of this, the movie failed to build any real connection with the characters. Maybe it was just me though, the others in the audience seemed to lap it up. It was really strange! I've never heard this much audience laughter/emotional interaction at the movies since Borat. Is it like this in all Sydney cinemas?

Jim Sturgess was great but Anne Hathaway, as much as I love her, was horribly miscast. She's not my Emma Morley and never will be. Plus, the script doesn't do her any favours. She's barely in the movie.

Oh and that was another problem. It's supposed to cross 20 years yet both stars look so pretty and young, it looks like the story occurs within the same year just with different haircuts each time.

The best part from the movie is the beautiful poster (above) and trailer:

Three stars out of five
...although I'm sure I will love watching this movie at some ungodly late hour alone and weeping.
